New Year – New Ways

It’s always deeply rewarding to hear from someone who has been using the Traveler Oracle creatively in a new way or a new setting. This New Year I heard in a round about way of an acquaintance using this deck with a group of women who have been involved in drama therapy as practitioners. Years ago they formed a professional peer group, and have been gleaning benefit for a long time doing this work. This year, the woman who hosted the first gathering of the year offered the Traveler Oracle as an added dimension of the work they do together. It was optional if someone chose to use the deck at all, pull a single card or three cards as a way to deepen their work and reveal potential aspects. Apparently all nine or ten women chose to do this and I heard from one of them that she was struck by what the cards revealed – aspects she had glossed over that needed to be looked at more thoroughly. She subsequently purchased her own deck as she wanted to see the cards again and read more about them, since they hadn’t taken the time to read the texts in the group process.

So, BRAVO for sharing this tool in a creative way and in a new context and THANK YOU!

It seemed appropriate to highlight the Temple of Creativity card for this blog. I’m always amazed and sad to hear how often people equate creativity with being artistic. It is NOT the same thing by a long shot. What I will offer here is that negative self-talk, judgements and being unwilling to potentially appear foolish keeps many back from the rewards of creativity. It does mean a certain amount of risk because you have to reach into the unknown. But that said, it is something we humans do excel at and it can be immensely rewarding. It often feels to me more like play than work, even though honing one’s creative skill is also work, but it’s meaningful work, in my experience. I hope this serves to encourage any of you out there who feel some impulse to grow your creative muscles in some new way.
